Sixteen intrepid beer drinkers, members and friends of the branch travelled to Wandsworth on the 18th June. We were treated to a "light lunch" of doorstep sandwiches and chips and a beer or two to oil the wheels of the tour.
Having donned our builders type fluorescent waistcoats we watched a video of the Brewers History presented by John Young, the Chairman (who made a brief appearance in the Brewery Tap while we were there). Our guide was Claire, a no-nonsense lady from Wales who soon put Rick in his place (facing the wall for using his mobile phone.)
The tour was interesting, the brewery is a mix of ancient and modern plant and buildings, with geese, donkeys and of course the Shire Horses which are used for local deliveries and shows.
Having worked up a thirst we finished up in the sample room, where we were met by James Young and Ken Don, the head brewer. The full range of draught beers was thoroughly sampled by the branch, including the rarely seen Oatmeal Stout.
Thanks are due to Claire, James Young (young Mr. Young), Ken Don and all the staff for a thoroughly enjoyable day.
