O'Hanlon's Brewery

by Tim Hurrell

NOTE: this trip took place before O'Hanlon's relocated to Devon (O'Hanlon's Brewing Company Ltd, Great Barton Farm, Clyst St Lawrence, Devon, Tel : 01491 826 466, www.ohanlons.co.uk)

O'Hanlon's Brewery, located at 114 Randall Road Arches, SE11 under the railway arches near Vauxhall station.

The brewery was set up in 1996 to supply John O'Hanlon's pub in Clerkenwell but now serves some 80 or so outlets. New fermenters have increased the capacity, and new bottling plant has just been purchased; the company has contracts with Safeways to supply their wheat beer, and is currently producing around 140 barrels a week.

The brewery has plans to move down to the West of England some time in the future.

Beers include: Fire Fly, Blakeley's Best, Dry Stout, Myrica Ale, Port Stout, and Red Ale

The Red has been a popular choice with the branch, has featured two or three times at meetings and beerfests, and won our Beer of the Year for 1999.

An informative tour, well refreshed. The Old Father Thames is just round the corner, a good spot for pre- and post-trip socialising.
